Wireless MedCARE, LLC was formed in August 2006 to address quality of care and operational efficiency problems commonly found in long-term health care facilities. The technology platform was developed by the Carilion Biomedical Institute (“CBI”) as a prototype “Smartbed” for a clinical evaluation in 2004. CBI utilized some innovative fiber optic sensing technology that it licensed from Virginia Tech Intellectual Properties. Wireless MedCARE now holds the exclusive commercial license to this patented concept for use in the field of healthcare – US patents 7,189,958 and 7,196,317 from the Carilion Biomedical Institute through its affiliate, Innovations Institute, LLC.
Wireless MedCARE has built its VivaTRAK™ system around this CBI/VT fiber optic sensor, integrating it with other sensor elements, computers, communications and security into platforms that are expandable to accommodate a wide variety of other sensors for multiple applications. Data is taken from sensors and processed into:
- Real-time actionable information
- Records for documentation
- Information Exchange Interface to other systems
We are headquartered in Roanoke, VA with R&D offices in Silicon Valley.
